8 things that simplify my life

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

My friend, Megan, tagged me for this meme nearly two weeks ago!

Hopefully better late than never?

1. Planner
I love my planner. This year it’s pink so it feels even prettier. It lives with me so is the major reason I can organise and simplify my life.

2. Digital camera
My camera lives in my bag so I’m always ready to take pictures like this and this.

3. Timer
My love for the kitchen timer is well-documented on this blog. It keeps me focussed and on track when I’m on the computer.

4. Spiral-bound notebook on my desk
I write everything in my desk notebook when I’m working on the computer. I start each day on a new page (literally) so it’s easy to check back if I need to find a password, etc. I recently created.

5. Cell phone
I love my current cell phone. I take pictures with it (when I’m lazy to do the whole camera thing), sync my appointments and of course, send occasional SMS/ text messages and phone.

6. Aweber
I can NOT stop raving enough about Aweber. I use it to manage my autoresponder when people sign up to my newsletter full of free organising tips, it sends out my ecourses and also sends out all my client stuff so I don’t have to remember to do anything but add the lead.

7. Skype
I use Skype for all international calls and for most of my client calls. It’s cheap and I bought a service so if my clients want the call

8. My desk folder
I have a folder on my desk with a page where I write down when I make sales, my things to delegate list, my teleconferencing phone numbers, etc. Everything I need on a daily basis right at my fingertips.

So, Megan, those are the 8 things that simplify my life. Once I started listing them, I realised I could go on and on because once I find something that works, I keep doing it.

And now, I get to have some fun.

I’m going to tag the Simplicity Queen herself, Beth Dargis, the absolutely gorgeous Eva Wallace at Clutter Control Freak (have you seen her hair?!) and The Goddess of All Things Beautiful, Suzanne Babb (did I get that right, Suzanne?)

7 things you may not know about me

Friday, December 12th, 2008

People, I’m feeling the pressure.

I don’t like things on my to-do list and yet both Eva and Suzanne tagged me to share 7 things you may not know about me

As we say in South Africa, eish!

Okay, let’s get to it!

  1. I hate, hate, hate doing laundry! Drives me absolutely batty. I think it’s because it’s never DONE!
  2. I have never had a traffic fine. Well, I have had one, but it was a mistake as it was not my car in the picture they sent me. You’ll know what a miracle this is if you’ve ever driven with me LOL
  3. My husband and I first met when he asked me to dance for him (ballet). Yes, I also thought he was a weirdo and of course said no! Which made me irresistible to him :)
  4. For the first time in my entire working life, I’m at an absolute low, work-wise. All prayers very welcome!
  5. I’m a BIG Michael Connelly fan and I’ve met him at an author reading/ signing. Very embarrassing moment for me.
  6. I do NOT have it all together. In fact, the reason I’m a time management coach today is because I was so shockingly bad at managing my time, learnt the lessons through trial and error and now I’m out on the other side!
  7. I am very lazy and love sleeping. If I could, I’d probably sleep in until 11 every day. Most weekends I do!

There you have it!

Now I’m tagging Debbie (we co-presented a call on blogging for business last night), Paula, Beth Dargis and Jenn Givler

10 weird things about me & the menu for the week

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Megan from the Disorder to Order blog tagged me for the 10 weird things meme.

  1. I love cold weather. We’re in South Africa with some of the best weather in the world, so this is weird for these parts ;)
  2. I don’t mind my car dirty on the outside but I cannot stand it dirty on the inside.
  3. One of my favourite things to eat is wholewheat toast with Melrose cheese spread spread very lightly with Mrs Balls Extra Hot fruit chutney. Yummy!
  4. I would much rather have a nice, clean kitchen than a romantic dinner out. AND I was quoted for this quirk in Shape magazine in 2006!
  5. On New Year’s Eve, for fun, I set my goals for the year. My husband tells me this is weird :)
  6. I hate surprises. All of them :) I share this weirdness with Oprah so I’m in good company.
  7. When I go to the gynae, I take a pair of socks to cover my feet.
  8. I only like watching happy, positive movies, preferably romantic comedies. I don’t mind legal thrillers but the outcome must be just – the bad guys must get caught – otherwise I really hate it. And I’ll watch almost anything with John Cusack in it!
  9. When I’m engrossed in a book, I turn into someone else if you DARE interrupt me.
  10. I really hate baby and wedding showers. Now the last time I blogged about this, so many people emailed me and agreed with me, yet they still go, because it’s tradition. So for me, the weird thing is that I just don’t go. That’s my boundary and I stick to it.

Oooh, now for the fun part.

I’m tagging Suzanne Babb, Rachel Pulido and Beth Dargis. And anyone else who wants to play along – yes, that’s YOU!

So what are we eating this week?

In South Africa, we have a public holiday on Monday (same as we had on Friday).

I read on someone’s blog that in the US, you have to take an annual leave day if you want to observe Good Friday. My word! That will not go down well over here :)

Seriously though, is that right? What about in other parts of the world?

Monday
Chicken, rice and broccoli

Tuesday
Macaroni and cheese

Wednesday
Baked potatoes, vienna sausage and lentil sauce

Thursday
Hot dogs and chips

Friday
Sausage, butternut and pasta bake, with cheese bread

What’s on your menu this week? And don’t forget to tell me if you guys get public holidays!

Tuesday’s tag – Marcia & organising

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Megan from Disorder2order tagged me to talk about ME!

Here are your questions… feel free to pass on and/or “tag” a new friend!

1. What is your most difficult org. challenge?
Paper – it’s never-ending and as much as we try to live in a paperless world, it’s not paperless enough for me! Add to that the fact that I’m a visual person and I need to see my to-do lists and mark things off means I have a lot. But on the bright side, I declutter ruthlessly :)

2. Who inspires you?
Hmm, difficult to say. Anyone who has done something before me! I always think, “if he/she has done it, then so can I” and I have quite a strong will so I usually do achieve what I set out to do.

I also love when people tell me that I’ve inspired them. Love it – that’s my mission in life, people.

3. How did you start organizing?
I was encouraging a friend to start something she would be really good at and instead, I got hooked :-)

I’ve been organised for my whole life (thus far) and have organised systems, work flow, people, etc. in Corporate SA for the last 10 years.

4. What do you love about organizing?
Sorting, categorising and labelling. And maintaining. And decluttering.

No, definitely categorising!

5. What is your guilty pleasure?
Only one, Megan?

Handbags. I say that unashamedly :)

I’m tagging
Corrie Haffly (Corrie, I love your new site)
Suzanne McLoone
Tina (Mummified X5)
